Easter: Growing up

Easter brings up interesting memories. Growing up a preacher's kid, Easter Sunday was always a busy day. We usually had a big crowd at church, followed by a big lunch with family & guests, followed by a relaxing afternoon, and then wrapped it all up with an evening church service which usually included a very small fraction of the morning crowd. (Oh yeah, and also mixed in there was a photo shoot so we could reflect back when we were older an think how cute we were a fixed up in our Easter Sunday suits!)

I've always been told I missed out on all the Easter fun as a kid. At my house, there were no Easter egg hunts, and the Easter bunny never made an appearance. There was, however, a lot of interest in this man Jesus who died on a cross and was raised up 3 days later, defeating sin & death, so that we could live a victorious life. Missing out? I really don't think so, it's not like I didn't get a few chocolate Easter bunnies to munch on.

Hope you have a meaningful Easter weekend.

btw: Who the heck is Easter and what did she do to help Jesus get out of the grave? Absolutely nothin'! Maybe Easter Sunday should grow up and get a new name....Rez-day....Victory Sunday... or something relevant to the victory over sin&death that took place that day! Just sayin'

  1. What a great focus your family had as you grew up. This world would be a much better place if everyone focused on the resurrection instead of the Easter bunny!
